      Last weekend I collected a brand new 45 gall drum from a firm in West Brom to get ready to start building a UDS smoker..

      Hopefully, it should finish up like one of these.............I ordered the tank connectors and pipe from JTM that's in the outhouse waiting for the start'

      Made few BBQs from drums in the distant past.

      But an upright smoker is a good idea.

      They are the air vents that you control by opening/closing a valve.

      Get the vales but why the pipes? Just so you don't bend down of is there more to it?

      10-Rog you hit the nail Mash, some guys don't add the pipes and make do with air vents at ground level.
