Because of what we do....making stuff, I see from the odd post that some of us like to go one step more and make our own bread & cheese.

I've found a local farm that sells milk straight from the cow....so I'm having daft ideas about having a go at cheese....does anyone else make their own cheese???

I can eat a lot of cheese if that helps Very Happy

I would but it is about getting a good supply of milk.  I console myself with Salami.

That's something I'd loved to have had a go at but unfortunately my body no longer seems to like lactose.

Strangely enough I too have thought about it in the past.......you ne a shitload (metric) of milk to make a hard cheese of any decent size though.
My dad 40 years ago used to make some and make it veined by inserting copper wire in it!!! Not sure whether that was safe at all!!!

Milk is fairly cheap thou....I did have a go a few years back but didn't stick with it. It's one of those things you wish you could do just to say "I made that".

Same with making bread, we used to do it 5 or 6 years back...Mrs Ice said only the other day she wants to start making it again....the daft thing is we have a bread maker...but I still think or know it's better done in an oven...or is that just me?? Very Happy

Bread makers are crap. People give up making bread because they can’t be arsed with all the kneading, when in actual fact there’s no need to knead (see what I did there?) just bring it together then allow it to autolyse and every 20 minutes just do a stretch and fold 4 times.
      Easy peasy!

Yup. Works a charm. Been doing it for years. Dan Lepard wrote a cracking book about it.
